In Spetses there are several attractions and beaches that one can visit. The only transportation around the island is by a horse carriage, boat and bikes, as cars are not permitted freely on the island, ensuring absolute peace and quiet.

Some of the most popular beaches that you should visit whilst on the island are Agia Marina, Agii Anargiri, Agios Mamas, Batis, Agia Paraskevi, Kounoupitsa, Sholes, as well as the beaches of Vrellos, Paradisos, Bithistamina and Zogeria. All of these are lovely beaches and are perfect for a refreshing swim during the hot summer months.

Spetses played important role during the revolution against the Ottoman occupation and is the homeland of very important figures of the revolution and the politic life of Greece, such as Laskarina Bouboulina.

The island was one of the most prosperous in the older times and that can been seen from the neoclassic buildings such as the house of Bouboulina, or the house of the first Governor of the island , Hatzigianni Mexi, that are operating today as museums.

Other interesting sites that are worth visiting are the Posidonion Square, the cave of Bekiris, the Church of Panagia Armata, the Anargirios – Korialenios School, and many more that you should pay a visit to whilst on the Spetses.

A quick look at Spetses Island

  • You can easily reach the island by the frequent ferry services that depart from the port of Piraeus in Athens
  • Cars are NOT permitted on the island, so make sure you bring comfortable walking shoes with you
  • In September you can enjoy the “Armata” celebrations, which was a very important naval battle that took place during the 1821 revolution
  • Easter is a very popular time of year for visitors to the island so if you are planning an Easter trip to the island, try and book your accommodation in advance as it can get busy
